Brainbox – The People’s Candidate

Valentine Onyeka Ogunaka, widely known as Brainbox, is a Nigerian spoken word artist, filmmaker and lecturer with works spanning across socio-political issues and the SDGs. In 2016, he won the HAGI Spoken Words Contest for his poem “I Will Speak for Her”, commemorating the day of the girl child, and he also released the first-ever documentary on spoken word poetry in Nigeria. He currently has two published anthologies to his name “Dreams Wake Me” and “Just Because We Are Grownups”. He is set to release a political EP.

This spoken word poem titled “The People’s Candidate tasks political aspirants of the 2019 General Elections on social responsibility. It was first written for The Osasu Show Symposium 2018 and draws inspiration from the popular saying that “With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility”.
